Getting started

How do I start a workout?

On the Workout tab, tap Start Workout for an empty session and Add Exercise as you go, or tap any routine to open it with its exercises and target weights pre-filled. If a workout is already in progress, Build asks before replacing it so you never lose a session by accident.

How do I log a set?

Type your weight and reps into the two fields on a set row, then tap the green check on the right. The row turns green and the rest timer starts automatically. Tap Add Set to add another, or swipe left on a row to remove it.

If I close the app mid-workout, do I lose my session?

No. Your active workout is saved to your phone continuously, so reopening Build resumes exactly where you left off — every set, note, and the running timer.

Is Build free?

Yes. Routines, logging, the full exercise library, history, stats, the rest timer, CSV import/export, and Apple Health sync are all free with no limits. Build Pro is an optional upgrade that unlocks the two AI features — voice set logging and photo routine import — beyond their free starter allowances.

Voice logging

How do I log a set with my voice?

During a workout, press and hold the floating microphone button in the bottom-right, say your set, then release. Say it like "bench press 225 for 5", or just "225 for 5" to log against the exercise you last touched. Build transcribes it, logs the set, and starts the rest timer. If it isn't sure, a confirm card lets you check the details first.

Does voice logging need a connection? Is it free?

Voice logging needs an internet connection — it can't run offline. Free accounts include 15 voice logs to try it; unlimited voice logging requires Build Pro.

Importing & exporting

How do I import a routine from a photo or screenshot?

Tap the camera icon on the Workout tab and pick photos from your library or take one. Build reads the image with AI and builds a routine you can review and edit before saving. It works on screenshots from other apps, spreadsheet photos, notes, or handwritten cards. You can pick up to 10 photos at once. Free accounts get 3 imports to try; unlimited imports need Build Pro.

Can I bring my history over from Strong or another app?

Yes. Export a CSV from the other app, then in Build open Settings → Import Data → Choose CSV File. Build reads Strong's layout and restores Build backups too. The CSV doesn't store units, so the review screen asks whether weights are in lb or kg — pick the one matching the app you exported from. CSV import is free, and you can undo an import right after it finishes.

How do I export or back up my data?

Open Settings → Export Workouts → Export CSV. Build writes a .csv with one row per set (including set types and RPE) and opens the share sheet so you can save it to Files, email it, or AirDrop it. Re-importing it into Build restores everything. Export is free.

Routines, folders & sharing

How do I create and organize routines?

On the Workout tab, tap Routine, name it, and add exercises. You can also save a finished workout as a routine, import one from a photo, or add a prebuilt program from Explore. Tap the folder icon to create folders, then drag routines into them or use a routine's ⋯ menu → Organize.

How do I share a routine, folder, or workout?

Open the ⋯ menu on a routine, folder, or saved workout and choose Share. Build creates a link and opens the share sheet. Anyone with the link can preview the contents and save them into their own account, so only share it with people you mean to — and you can revoke a link any time.

History & progress

Where do I see my past workouts?

The History tab lists every completed workout, newest first, grouped by month, with a per-exercise breakdown on each card. Tap a card for the full detail, or use the calendar icon for a month/year view where you can also log a backdated workout. Open a workout's ⋯ menu to edit, repeat, save as a routine, share, or delete it.

How do personal records and progress charts work?

A blue PR badge marks any working set that beats your all-time best at that rep count. Each exercise's Stats tab tracks your heaviest lift, estimated 1RM over time, best set, and rep maxes. On the Profile tab you can add dashboard widgets to track an exercise or your weekly activity. Warm-up sets are always excluded from volume and records.

Build Pro & billing

What does Build Pro unlock?

Build Pro unlocks unlimited voice set logging (free accounts get 15) and unlimited photo routine imports (free accounts get 3), plus every future Pro feature. Everything else in Build is already free. Plans are Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime (one-time); live prices are shown on the paywall at Settings → Subscription.

I bought Build Pro but it still shows me as free.

On the paywall (Settings → Subscription), tap Restore to re-sync your receipt, and confirm you're signed in to the same Apple ID you purchased with. Pro normally activates within seconds. If it still doesn't show, email [email protected] and we'll sort it out.

How do I redeem a code?

On the paywall (Settings → Subscription), tap Have a code?, enter your code, and tap Redeem. A valid, unused code grants lifetime Build Pro right away. You need to be signed in to redeem.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID, so manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Build. Your Pro features stay active until the end of the period you already paid for.

Apple Health & Apple Watch

Does Build work with Apple Health?

Yes — connect it in Settings → Apple Health. On iPhone, Build only writes your finished workouts (duration and an estimated calorie burn) to Apple Health and never reads your health data. On Apple Watch, during a workout it reads your live heart rate and calories to show on your wrist and save them with the workout — that data stays on your device.

How do I use the Apple Watch app?

Build's watch app comes bundled with the iPhone app and usually installs on its own a minute or two after you install Build. If it hasn't appeared, open the Watch app on your iPhone → Available AppsInstall next to Build. Open it during a workout to log sets by voice from your wrist and see your live heart rate and calories. Steps are also in Settings → Apple Watch.

Notifications

Can Build remind me to work out?

Yes. In Settings → Notifications → Workout Reminders, turn them on and choose the days and time. Build can also remind you about a workout you left unfinished. The rest timer also sends a time-sensitive alert when your rest ends, even if your screen is locked. If notifications aren't coming through, tap Turn On Notifications on that screen, or enable them under iOS Settings → Build.

Account

How do I create an account or reset my password?

Sign up with your email and an 8+ character password, or tap Continue with Apple or Continue with Google. To reset a forgotten password, tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen. You can change your name, goal, photo, and email — and connect or disconnect Apple/Google — from your Profile.

Does my data sync across devices?

Yes. Your workouts, routines, custom exercises, and dashboard are stored against your account, so signing in on another device brings them with you. You can log workouts offline too — they sync automatically once you're back online. App settings (units, theme) are stored per-device.

How do I delete my account?

Open your profile, tap Edit, then Delete Account (Danger Zone). Build lists exactly what gets erased — your login, all workouts and history, routines and folders, and custom exercises and photos — and asks you to type DELETE to confirm. This is permanent. You can also email [email protected] and we'll take care of it.

Privacy

Build stores your email, the workouts and routines you create, and any photos you add. We use trusted services to run the app and anonymous, pseudonymous analytics to improve it. We don't show ads, never sell your data, and don't track you across other apps. Read the full Privacy Policy for the details.
